Google have cut the page rank of many websites in their latest toolbar update. Many webmasters seem to be very upset by this and have been a bit of a whinge on the SEO forums. They seem to react like they have been punished by Google and worry that their website has been penalised in some way. So why is such a fuss made over this toolbar ranking, is the page rank of a website really that important?
Answer - NO. The people are moaning that their website has had a page rank deduction really need to get a life. There was a time, not so long ago, when seemingly the only subject that people within the SEO world talked about was page rank. The higher the page rank of a website, the higher its rankings would be and the more traffic it would receive, the best sites also seemingly had the highest page rank. This is no longer the case, take for example the website seroundtable. This site is renowned, has masses of traffic heading to it each and every day and has a ton of backlinks pointing to it - but it is only a page rank four. I have one particular blog in the health sector which is a pr5 yet it only receives a trickle of visitors.
I run a number of websites to do with Psychic Readings, stuttering and SEO software reviews and I really do not care about page rank.
The webmasters who are upset by seeing their website move from a page rank five to a page rank four are mainly the one’s who are new to this game. How often do you read comments on these forums from seasoned webmasters moaning about the page rank of their websites? Never is the answer.
Forget page rank and concentrate on rankings, that’s what I say. Do not waste your time debating on forums, spend your time in a more constructive manner by attempting to obtain one-way backward links and by writing new content for your website.
